Global Prayer and Fasting Coalition gains momentum as threats of terrorism, H1N1 Pandemic, and civil unrest threaten world peace and security
October 2 – 12, 2009
The 17th Annual International Week of Prayer and Fasting (October 2-12, 2009) Washington, DC – September 24, 2009. The International Week of Prayer and Fasting Coalition has gained huge momentum as global threats escalate creating much unrest. According to sources, there is a serious threat of a possible sequel to 9-11, a plot called the American Hiroshima. This threat involves a plan to detonate suitcase bombs on several cities.
As we see these times grow darker and more troubled, this global movement is calling upon the faithful to begin protecting their cities by participating in prayer, fasting, and Eucharistic adoration. One of the targeted cities for terrorists is Chicago. Many of the Coalition participants are mobilizing prayer vigils throughout the city of Chicago. One in particular is the prayer vigil at the Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy in St. Stanislaus Kostka which has adoration available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Where sin abounds, grace abounds more. We need to take advantage of what St. Paul wrote and invoke that grace.
According to Coalition organizers, there has been an expansion of the movement’s mission. One of the coalition leaders, Milagros Callao, says “This is a grassroots movement from all over the world that have been working together for over 17 years.” She notes, “As problems have accelerated in the world especially with global terrorism, and economic and moral decline, this global movement has grown.” Maureen Flynn, one of the Coalition leaders, says “The international Coalition participants organize prayers for world peace, promote the culture of life, and mobilize prayer vigils across the world.
One of the coalition’s organizers states, “Our country and our world are at a critical point in history. There are so many wars, civil unrest, and illnesses that many people now believe prayer and fasting are essential for the survival of our country and our world.”
According to Flynn, Blessed Mother Teresa was a major supporter of “this week”. In the past 37 years, we have allowed another form of terrorism, the killing of the innocent unborn child. There are 1.3 million abortions a year in the United States. Globally, we have allowed the killing of the Innocents and we now have US leaders who support infanticide. In the Old Testament, the ultimate sin that brought about judgment upon nations was the sin of child sacrifice. Mother Teresa has said, “It is poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish” and “the greatest destroyer of peace and love in the world is abortion”.
The supernatural heavenly weapons to prevent disasters, wars and degeneration of our society are the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Rosary. These represent the two pillars seen by St. John Bosco in his vision of 1862, the pillar of the Holy Eucharist and the pillar with Our Lady. For over a thousand years, the faithful have gone on pilgrimages to venerate the relics of Christ’s Passion and Death. We are blessed to have The Relics of the Passion at the Saturday Conference and at the Eucharistic Prayer Vigil.
The goals of the week are: the conversion of nations, an end to abortion, and peace. This year's theme is God’s Plan for Life and Love. The Coalition is asking for people to participate in the following ways: attend the events in Washington, DC if possible; fast, attend daily Mass, and offer prayers, including but not limited to Holy Hours, Rosaries, Divine Mercy Chaplets and Confession. The week culminates with three special events held in Washington D.C.,
